Billy's Homecoming

My husband and I adopted a blind kitten Sunday, 6-27-10.
I was browsing Craigslist, as I often do in search of pictures of cute kittens...and saw a posting "BLIND KITTEN NEEDS HOME". I read the posting, and my heart just melted. This little guy was about 11 weeks old, born to a stray this girl had. His brothers and sisters had been adopted but no one wanted the little blind guy. The people in the house he was living at couldn't afford to take care of him, and were going to have to take him to a shelter if no one wanted him.
Around here, all the no-kill shelters are full...and other shelters don't keep blind kittens because no one wants him. Luckily, it didn't take much to convince my husband as he has a soft heart for animals. We have a 13 week old kitten Joey, who we just adoped 8 weeks ago that we absolutely love,,,we had originally decided not to have any more cats but we couldn't let this poor thing end up being killed.
We went to pick up the kitten on Sunday morning. We spoke with his owner to get more information about him, than took him to the pet store. We got him a collar with a bell, so he wouldn't get lost, and a tag that reads "Billy. Im Blind" with our contact information on the back. Just in case he ever gets lost.
We brought Billy into our home, and let him meet our cats. He did NOT like it. He started hissing, growling and got really scared. He was not sure what was going on :( We let him walk areound the house exploring while we set up his room. We blocked off the living room, and set up a food/water dish and litterbox. It has just been one day and he is already learning the setup so well. He was not had an accident, and uses the litterbox very well! He can find his food and water, and can climb the couch. He likes to jump up the couch to the top, and feel for our shoulders to sit on us!
Billy may be blind...but he is VERY smart.
We are learning so much about having a blind kitty! Tomorrow he goes to the vet for a checkup and to see how healthy he is aside from the blindness.
